Use of customer information

Information required processing your membership
We require certain information to allow us to process with your membership. This includes your name, address, telephone and fax number, and email address, and, if you wish to use our automatic payment system following (winbank ??) our banking online payment system by respecting it’s terms and policy, your credit or debit card number and expiry date.
This information allows us to process with a detailing list of our members and sends you information for our activities. Also, to confirm any payment you may wish to process for certain purposes connected with our organization. We ask for your telephone number so that we can contact you urgently if there is a problem with your membership or other connection with us.
You can also opt for us to remember your details, so that next time you want to process an inquiry, the process will be even easier.
We may occasionally use the information we collect to notify you about new services and offers we think you may find valuable. 
By using our automatic e-mail service we will email you our latest news and information regarding the activities of our organization. 
Occasionally we ask you to email us with your opinion on a particular subject, and may publish a selection of these comments on our web site. However, if you advise us that you do not wish to have your comment and name published, we will not do so.

Site tracking

We use tracking software to monitor traffic patterns and site usage to help us develop the design and layout of the site to better meet the needs of visitors of our site. This software does not enable us to capture any personally identifying information.

Security to protect your information

When you book a flight, we offer the use of the latest secure server software which encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. When you place orders or requests we offer the use of a secure server.
Furthermore, as required by Greek Legislation and Data Protection Acts as in force, we follow strict security procedures in the storage and disclosure of information which you have given us, to prevent unauthorised access. Our security procedures mean that we may occasionally request proof of identity before we are able to disclose sensitive information to you.

We may provide aggregate statistics about our members, activities, traffic patterns, and related site information to reputable third-party vendors, but these statistics will include no personally identifying information.

Objective

The Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) is aimed to provide a better understanding of international affairs by creating a framework for creative thinking, honest discussions and nonpartisan dissemination of multidisciplinary reflections and innovative ideas. Special attention is devoted to:

 Transatlantic Relations;
 Intelligence Studies and Terrorism;
 Improving Intelligence Analysis;
 Intelligence Cooperation;
 European Integration;
 International Security;
 Balkan and Mediterranean Studies;
 Critical Studies;
 Security and Intelligence in the Private Sector.

Activities

The Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) seeks to achieve its objective through:

 Research and publication of peer-reviewed articles, strategic analyses and reports, as well as reflection papers from scholars and experts from the Civil Society, Private Sector and Government;
 Workshops, seminars and lectures;
 Participation in international conferences and forums.
The Institute also maintains a library and documentation center open to the public upon request.

The Institute offers internship positions open to early career scholars (PhD and MA students, holders of a PhD received after 2013) and young experts from various domains whose research interests match its objectives.

RIEAS maintains regular contact with other major research institutes throughout Europe, the United States and Asia, organizing joint lectures and engaging in joint projects.

Status

The Research Institute for European and American Studies is a non-profit research institute established under Greek law (Greek Court registered no. 5427, April 6, 2006 , Legal Document in Greek language). RIEAS's budget is generated by membership subscriptions, donations from individuals and foundations, as well as from various research projects. The Institute is autonomous organization. Its activities and views are independent of any public or private bodies, and the Institute is not allied to any political party, denominational group or ideological movement.

Leadership

John M. Nomikos , Director 

John M. Nomikos (PhD) is the founder and director of the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) since 2006. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of European and American Intelligence Studies (JEAIS) that the Institute publishes twice a year. Besides his work with RIEAS, John is an Assistant Professor at the Webster University (Athens Campus) where he teaches International Security, Professional Seminar (National Security and Intelligence Studies), Terrorism in World Politics, Policy and Practice: Global Project, Middle East Area Studies, Introduction to International Studies, Defense Attaché Lecture Series and a Member of the Editorial Board of various academic journals. He earned his Bachelor Degree in Sociology at the Northeast Louisiana University in 1987, his Masters Degree in European Integration and Cooperation at the University of Hull, 1991, and his Doctorate Diploma in International Relations and Diplomacy at the Washington International University in 2001. He has done research and studied in various research institutions in USA, UK, Norway, Finland, Germany and Israel.

RIEAS subscribes to a variety of academic journals such as Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, Current History, Intelligence and National Security, International Journal of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, World Today, European Security, Economist, Business Week, MIT Technology Review, The National Interest, Eye Spy Magazine, International Politik, Global Dialogue etc. The specialized library holds more than 3000 books and has published more than 100 Research Papers.

We welcome short commentaries from young researchers/analysts for our web site (about 700 words), but we are also willing to consider publishing short papers (about 5000 words) in the English language as part of our publication policy. The topics that we are interested in are: transatlantic relations, intelligence studies, Mediterranean and Balkan issues, Middle East Affairs, European and NATO security, Greek foreign and defence policy as well as Russian Politics and Turkish domestic politics.
