This book is about an inquiry into whether India was able to put its best foot forward and use the international system. What type of choices has India made with little or no available options? How has it changed the imagination of millions of Indians who looked up to India’s performance in the international system? What type of adjustments has it made in twenty-first century geopolitics? Is India taking calculated risks or blindly going along the wind? Has India’s time international system arrived? These are some of the significant questions this book has attempted to answer. Time and again, several policymakers and scholars have spoken about India being among the nations with a young population. This young generation is going to decide the fate of the nation-state, and their voices and understanding of India’s foreign policy are significant. It is significant because it is about creating a critical mass of independent thinkers who can shape India’s strategic culture. They can inspire millions of people in India and elsewhere what they think about India’s foreign policy. The 23 scholarly chapters of the book, authored by 22 IR experts, have been divided into six sections: India as a world power, India and International Agencies, The China Challenge, India and West Asia, India and South Asia and Defense and Technology. India today is an emerging player in multilateral institutions and different forums. Leaders from Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Australia, apart from great power powers in international politics have hailed PM Narendra Modi’s leadership and the forthright approach of EAM Dr S Jaishankar. India is seen as a power to reckon with, not just because it has a powerful military, emerging economy and stable political regime, but because its intention is Vasudaiva Kutumbakam and Loka Samastha Sukhino Bhavantu. With this intention, this book explores the policy choices of the government and the way forward for India and the world. Read more
