Yannis Stivachtis (PhD) is Senior Advisor at the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) in Athens, Greece. He is Professor of Political Science and Jean Monnet Chair at Virginia Tech (USA). He is the Director of the Center for European Union & Trans-European Space Studies (CEUTSS) – A Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. He also serves as Director of the European & International Studies program and the Diplomacy Lab program.

 
He holds a Ph.D. in Politics & International Relations and an M.A. in International Relations & Strategic Studies from Lancaster University (UK); and a B.A. in International Studies from Panteion University. His research interests include International and European Security, Transatlantic Relations, US Foreign Policy, and European Union's Foreign Relations. He has authored many books and articles and has edited several volumes.
 
His previous appointments include: Scientific Expert, Austrian Federal Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense; Research Fellow and Project Consultant, United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR); Senior Fellow, Austrian Institute for International & Security Policy (IAS); and Research Fellow, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). He has also taught in various academic institutions, as well as diplomatic and military academies and has held university-related administrative positions.
