Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunovic is Senior Advisor in the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS), based in Athens, Greece.
Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunović is a professor, Founder and Director of the Institute for National and International Security (INIS), one of the largest international academic and professional networks dedicated to the advancement of Security Science. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Security Science Journal, an international peer-reviewed journal focusing on security, intelligence, and strategic studies.
He is employed at the Faculty of Security Studies, University of Belgrade, where he teaches and conducts research in Security Studies, Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence, Counter-Terrorism, National Security, and International Security. His academic and professional work has significantly contributed to the conceptual and methodological development of Security Science as an independent interdisciplinary scientific discipline.
Prof. Dr. Trifunović holds a Doctor Honoris Causa degree awarded by the University of Public and Individual Security – Apeiron (Kraków, Poland). He has been appointed as a Visiting Full Professor at both the University of Public and Individual Security – Apeiron (Kraków, Poland) and the University “St. Kliment Ohridski” – Faculty of Security Studies (Skopje, North Macedonia). He is also a Guest Professor at Matej Bel University, Faculty of Political Science and International Relations (Slovakia), a Senior Researcher at Bar-Ilan University (Israel), a Senior Advisor at the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS), Athens, Greece, and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Łukasiewicz – ITECH Institute of Innovation and Technology, part of the Łukasiewicz Research Network, one of Europe’s largest state-supported research and innovation systems.
A former diplomat, Prof. Dr. Trifunović served as First Secretary in the Foreign Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the United Nations. In 1998, he was an official delegate to the Rome Diplomatic Conference that established the International Criminal Court.
He is the official representative of Serbia and Montenegro to several international professional and academic platforms, including the International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA), Defense & Foreign Affairs publications, and the Global Information System. He is also a founding member of the International Counter-Terrorism Academic Community (ICTAC).
Prof. Dr. Trifunović has authored and edited numerous academic books, policy papers, and peer-reviewed publications. He regularly participates in international conferences, expert panels, and strategic forums worldwide. His research and professional interests focus on intelligence studies, counter-terrorism, hybrid threats, cognitive warfare, strategic security, and emerging challenges in international security.
For his professional contributions, Prof. Dr. Darko Trifunović received the highest military decoration of the Military Security Agency of the Republic of Serbia – the Great Golden Badge.
