Yannis Stivachtis (PhD) is Senior Advisor at the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) in Athens, Greece. He is Professor of Political Science and Jean Monnet Chair at Virginia Tech (USA). He is the Director of the Center for European Union & Trans-European Space Studies (CEUTSS) – A Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. He also serves as Director of the European & International Studies program and the Diplomacy Lab program.

 
He holds a Ph.D. in Politics & International Relations and an M.A. in International Relations & Strategic Studies from Lancaster University (UK); and a B.A. in International Studies from Panteion University. His research interests include International and European Security, Transatlantic Relations, US Foreign Policy, and European Union's Foreign Relations. He has authored many books and articles and has edited several volumes.
 
His previous appointments include: Scientific Expert, Austrian Federal Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense; Research Fellow and Project Consultant, United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR); Senior Fellow, Austrian Institute for International & Security Policy (IAS); and Research Fellow, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). He has also taught in various academic institutions, as well as diplomatic and military academies and has held university-related administrative positions.

Aya Burweila is an Adviser at the Research Institute for European and American Studies. Born in Benghazi, Libya, she holds a Certificate in Terrorism Studies from The Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at the University of St. Andrews's School of International Relations, Certificates in Conflict Analysis and Interfaith Conflict Resolution from the United States Institute of Peace, an M.A. in International Relations and Affairs from the University of Indianapolis and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of La Verne. She is an expert on Islamic Fundamentalism. Her work has been published by The International Journal for Intelligence and Counter Intelligence, the Oxford Law Society Journal, the Jerusalem Review of Near East Affairs, and China U.S. Focus Journal, as well as being distributed by the Canadian Center for Intelligence and Security Studies and the International Security Network. She is also a visiting lecturer at the Hellenic National Defense Academy, SETHA. She has been quoted by Time magazine, Washington Post, the Guardian, Protothema, and the Athens News, among other publications.

Dr Trifunovic was elected as guest professor at FUDAN University – Center of American Studies, Shanghai, China. Dr Darko Trifunovic is Senior Research Fellow in rank of Associate professor at FUDAN University Institute of BRI Strategy and International Security. Dr Trifunovic is Adjunct professor of Shanghai Academy of Social Science, Coordinator for Research. Dr Darko Trifunovic is Senior Research Fellow and lecturer at Faculty of Security Studies-University of Belgrade. He is Senior Adviser at the Research Institute for European and American Studies, Greece, Athens. He is a specialist in Security studies, Intelligence & Counter Intelligence studies as well as Counter-Terrorism, National and International Security studies. He is a former diplomat (First Secretary of the Foreign Service of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the United Nations). Dr. Trifunovic is the representative for Serbia and Montenegro of International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA); Defense & Foreign Affairs publications; and the Global Information System and he is member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Transnational Studies, Munich, Germany. The Shanghai Center for International Studies appointed him as the first foreign expert for the Olympic Games (2008) security preparation in China. In 2010, he is engaged in World Expo Security preparation and is a Member. Dr Trifunovic is regular speaker at International Counter Terrorism Institute, Tel Aviv, Israel, and prof.dr Darko Trifunovic is one of the founding Members of the International Counter Terrorism Academic Community (ICTAC). He has published numbers of academic books papers and articles.

 

 

Dr. Andrew N. Liaropoulos  is a Senior Analyst in the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS). He is Assistant Professor in University of Piraeus, Department of International and European Studies, Greece. Dr. Liaropoulos teaches also in the Joint Staff War College, the National Security College and the Air Staff Command College. He earned his Master’s Degree in Intelligence and Strategic Studies at Aberystwyth University and his Doctorate Diploma at Swansea University. His research interests include international security, intelligence reform, strategy, military transformation, crisis management, foreign policy analysis and Greek security policy. Dr. Liaropoulos is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of European and American Intelligence (JEAI) and of the Journal of Information Warfare (JIW).

Dr. Leo S.F. Lin is a Senior Analyst at the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS). Dr. Lin holds several positions in various institutions in the United States and is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of European and American Intelligence Studies (JEAIS). His current research interests include non-traditional security, IR theories, human security, human trafficking, organized crime, cybercrime, illegal immigration, refugee, international policing, Indo-Pacific affairs, and political violence, with a regional focus on Asia. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings, book chapters, policy papers, and a co-edited book on Asia-Pacific security. His work also appears on premium think tanks and media. Dr. Lin received his Ph.D. from the School of Social Sciences and Global Studies, the University of Southern Mississippi, USA.

Karen Wharton photoSenior Analyst in the Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS). She is a native of Trinidad and Tobago who immigrated to the United States. She holds a M.P.A. in Emergency Management and B.S.N. in Nursing. An Emergency Manager in the Veterans Health Administration, She worked for New York-Presbyterian/Columbia and New York City Hospitals as a critical care nurse in obstetric and neonatal care. Most recently, she was recruited by the United States Air Force as a Captain from 2010-2014, bringing years of clinical and administrative expertise to the military. Over the course of her career, she has been a tireless advocate for fighting Veteran’s homelessness and improving maternal/child healthcare. She successfully lobbied state legislators to increase minimum wage and brought awareness to Veteran’s supportive housing programs. Most notably, she was on the American Red Cross team that handled the “Miracle on the Hudson.” The plane made its spectacular emergency landing on the Hudson River in New York City and all 155 passengers and crew were safely rescued. She authored Continuity of Operations (COOP) policies for Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) and Randolph AFB-Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA); ensuring all critical benchmarks for emergency preparedness. She has been regularly recognized for her humanitarian efforts and positive influence on improving Veterans’ lives. She has been featured in various Media articles and has been awarded and nominated by “Jericho Project “a renowned nonprofit organization for her ability to inspire other Veterans.

Her main academic and research interests includes the broad spectrum of the processes of democratization in the Balkans, right-wing extremism in Europe and in the Balkans, Populism, Comparative Politics, Euroscepticism, Conspiracy theories, social movements, political parties, human rights and globalization. She is completing her PhD thesis at Panteion University in Athens (Greece) with emphasis on the political systems of three Balkan countries after the fall of Communism: Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. Mrs. Vera Tika has a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Panteion in Athens (Greece) and an undergraduate degree in Social Policy from the University of Panteion in Athens (Greece). She has been involved in different European projects concerning the phenomena of social and political radicalism, the development of the comparative research and secondary analysis (Socialdatanet). She is a member of the Hellenic Political Science Association (HPSA) and the Hellenic League of the Human Rights.

Nomikos (PhD) is the Director at the Research Institute for European and American Studies, Chairman, European Intelligence Academy (EIA) and Founding Editor, Journal of European and American Intelligence Studies (JEAIS)- (former Mediterranean and Balkan Intelligence (JMBI). He is the Head of the History, Politics and International Relations Department at the Athens Campus of Webster University (Webster Athens) and an Associate Professor. He joined the Intelligence and Security Studies program as an Affiliate Faculty member in 2022 at the Coastal Carolina University. John M. Nomikos directed the Greek team in a consortium of five countries (Northern Ireland-UK, Spain, Germany, Bulgaria, and Israel) and completed successfully a two year (2009-2011) European Union-FP7 research project titled: SAFE COMMS on “Counter-terrorism Crisis Communication Strategies for Recovery and Continuity.” He participated as Greek Expert on the European Union Project titled TRANSVERSAL BRIDGE (HOME 2012/ISEC/AG/4000004378) on “The Emerging Threat of Transversal Terrorist Alliances and the Radicalization of the European Union Social Climate. The Project started on January 2014 and completed on April 2016, managed by AGENFOR organization in Italy. He is a Certified Master Antiterrorism Specialist (CMAS/ATAB/USA) and Certified Intelligence Officer (CIO/ATAB/USA). He is registered in the teaching personnel of the National Centre for the Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA) in Athens, Greece.
