Nomikos (RIEAS Director) delivered a speech on “Intelligence and Instability in Southeast Europe: Organized Crime and Illegal Immigration” in an International Conference on “New Perspectives on the Role of Intelligence in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe” organized by the International Intelligence History Association (IIHA) in cooperation with the Austrian Center for Intelligence, Propaganda and Security Studies (ACIPSS) and the Centre for Southeast European Studies (CSEES), University of Graz, on 8-10 June 2018, Graz, Austria.

Nomikos (RIEAS Director) delivered a speech on “Counter-terrorism Challenges and Instability in Greece: Threats from Illegal Immigration, Organized Crime and Radicalization” as well as chaired the panel “Radicalism in National Environment” in the International Conference titled The Counter-terrorism Challenges in Region of South-Eastern Europe: Violent Extremism and Radicalization processes as driving factors to terrorism threats on West Balkans and security implications to Europe, organized by the Slovenian Ministry of Defence and the Joint Special Operations University (USA) on 22-24 May 2018 in Maribor, Slovenia.
The Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) organized a seminar titled “Organized Crime and Money Laundering “the Bread and Butter” of Balkan Instability” on 23 April 2018 in Athens, Greece.
Ioannis (John) M. Nomikos (RIEAS Director) delivered a speech on “Cyber-Security Incidents and Terrorist Threats in Greece” as well as chaired the panel “Critical Energy Infrastructure Protection” in the international conference titled Resilient Critical Infrastructure, organized by the Zagreb Security Forum (ZSF) on 16-17 March 2018 in Croatia.

The Research Institute for European and American Studies in Athens, Greece and the International Association for Intelligence Education in Breda, the Netherlands co-organized a conference titled: “Intelligence Studies in a Time of European Crisis” on 22-24 June 2017 in Athens, Greece.
In the three days international conference, panelists from Armed Forces, Law-Enforcement, Intelligence and Academic community participated from the following countries: Greece, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, USA, UK, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Israel, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, France and Switzerland.
The International conference was attended by fifty persons and topics were covered as: Intelligence studies, social media, security reforms in intelligence services, organized crime, illegal immigration, human trafficking, Middle East and Gulf States security issues, North Africa, Turkey social and political turmoil and illegal immigration flows to Greece/Italy/Europe , Radicalization and maritime security in the Balkan and Mediterranean region.
