Frontex publicized its Annual Risk Analysis for 2012
The report notes that “the border between Greece and Turkey is very likely to remain one of the areas with the highest number of detections of illegal border-crossing along the external border. More and more migrants are expected to take advantage of Turkish visa policies and the expansion of Turkish Airlines, carrying more passengers to more destinations, to transit through Turkish air borders and subsequently attempt to enter the EU illegally”.

Unemployment much higher for foreign nationals
According to the latest Labor Force Survey (1st quarter of 2012) the unemployment rate of foreign nationals was much higher compared to the Greeks (30.5% compared to 21.8% respectively).

Reported attacks on foreigners have increased
In the last few months there has been a significant increase in the reported attacks on foreigners. The victims have been wounded with clubs, iron fists and knives and, although the identity of the attackers remains largely unknown, the motives of the attacks are thought to be racist.
