Cases of malaria re-appear in Greece!
According to the Ministry of Health 57 new cases of malaria were declared to the authorities in 2011. The majority of these cases (30 cases - 52.6%) involved non-Greeks, mainly Pakistanis.

The Center for Security Studies of the Ministry for Citizen’s Protection publicized a report on the creation of a National Co-ordinating Center for Border Surveillance and Control.
Foreign pupils perform much worse at school compared to their Greek classmates
Foreign pupils consist 14% of the total number of pupils in Attica schools. Their presence in class ranges from 5.4% to 83.74% in some areas. According to PISA findings, foreign pupils in Greek schools lag behind their Greek classmates in educational performance by 60 points.

“Only” 100,000 foreigners were arrested in 2011 for illegal entry and/or illegal stay!
According to Hellenic Police data 99,368 foreigners were arrested in 2011 for illegal entry and/or illegal stay in Greece. This marks a 25% decrease compared to 2010 (132,524 arrests). The same data indicate that the problem of illegal entry is acute in the Greek-Turkish land border where there was a 16.7% increase in arrests. The majority of those arrested were Afghans (28,528 arrested), Pakistanis (19,975 arrested) and Albanians (11,733 arrested).

IOM launches another voluntary repatriation program
