The Research Institute for European and American Studies in Athens, Greece and the International Association for Intelligence Education in Breda, the Netherlands co-organized a conference titled: “Intelligence Studies in a Time of European Crisis” on 22-24 June 2017 in Athens, Greece.

In the three days international conference, panelists from Armed Forces, Law-Enforcement, Intelligence and Academic community participated from the following countries: Greece, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, USA, UK, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Israel, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, France and Switzerland.

The International conference was attended by fifty persons and topics were covered as: Intelligence studies, social media, security reforms in intelligence services, organized crime, illegal immigration, human trafficking, Middle East and Gulf States security issues, North Africa, Turkey social and political turmoil and illegal immigration flows to Greece/Italy/Europe , Radicalization and maritime security in the Balkan and Mediterranean region.

During the election process in the IAFIE-EUROPE Athens Conference (24/06/2017), Ioannis (John) M. Nomikos elected Member of the Board of Directors in the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE-EUROPE). Read more

Nomikos (RIEAS Director) had discussion with security scholars in Washington D.C, and he delivered a speech on “Intelligence Cooperation and Maritime Security in the Mediterranean Region” as well as presented a book titled “Intelligence Beyond the Anglosphere: Mediterranean and Balkan Regions” edited by John M Nomikos & Joseph Fitsanakis (March 2017, RIEAS, Athens, Greece) in the International Association for Intelligence Education (IAFIE) 13th Anniversary Conference on New Challenges and Opportunities for Enhancing Intelligence Education in the American Military University (AMU) on 21-24 May 2017 in Charles Town, West Virginia, USA.

nduIn July 2016, United States National Defense University (NDU) students spent time in Athens during a regional cultural studies trip. Ioannis (John) M. Nomikos (RIEAS Director), Assistant Professor at the Webster University (Athens Campus) and Mrs. Aya Burweila (RIEAS Senior Analyst) met NDU students and discussed about Greek Foreign Policy and Transatlantic Security issues.

The Research Institute for European and American Studies (RIEAS) participated in the 11th Enriching the Middle East's Economic Future Conference 2016 on 30 May - 1 June 2016 in Doha, Qatar. Ioannis (John) M. Nomikos (RIEAS Director) attended the panel on "The Encryption Controversy" and "The Presidential Race and the State of U.S. Policy", and Mrs. Antonia Dimou (RIEAS Senior Advisor) was commentator on the panel on "ISIS and Oil: How ISIS controls Oil Fields, How it Sells the Oil, and How it Uses Oil Revenues to Finance its Operations."

awcrieasWebster Athens hosted a delegation of United States Air War College students on March 10, 2016, who were on a regional cultural studies trip. The event was hosted by the History Politics and International Relations Faculty and the Admissions Department of Webster Athens in pursuance of the military-friendly incomparable educational programs and workshops offered by the university for over 40 years.
