Dr. John M. Nomikos (RIEAS Director) visited the Greek Police Press office ( 30 November 2011) and submitted the Manual “SAFE COMMS- The Terrorism Crisis Communication Manual for Public Authorities”  to Mr. Athanasios G. Kokkalakis (Greek Police Press Spokesman) as well as met Police Officer Mr. Petros Tanos ( staff in the Greek Police Press office).

Dr. Andrew Liaropoulos (RIEAS Senior Analyst) won the NATO Cyber Defense Competition and participated in a seminar on cyber-security that took place in the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Recent cyber-incidents in Estonia 2007, Georgia 2008 as well as the cases of GhostNet and Stuxnet, vividly demonstrate the complex nature of cyberspace. Cyber-attacks cross borders, they are asymmetric, sophisticated and hard to trace. NATO has to adjust to the new security environment and develop cyber defence capabilities.

 

George Protopapas (RIEAS Research Associate - Media Analyst) participated as moderator and speaker in International Conference “Russia and Europe: Topical Issues of Contemporary International Journalism”. He delivered a speech on “National Interests and Journalism”. The conference held in Paris 24-25 November 2011 and organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications.
Dr. John M. Nomikos (RIEAS Director) published an editorial on “Reforming the Greek Intelligence-Security Community: New Challenges” in the Journal of Romanian Intelligence Studies, No. 5, June 2011, Bucharest, Romania.
On 21 October 2011, in Athens, Dr. John M. Nomikos (RIEAS Director) and Dr. Zefi Dimadama (ICBSS Director) had a meeting in order to discuss several issues concerning the cooperation between RIEAS and ICBSS.
